Tradeable points for a qualification in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics subject
Under the points-based immigration system, to qualify for a Skilled Worker Visa, you must be awarded 70 points in total, 20 of which are tradeable points. One option of being awarded 20 tradeable points is where you have a relevant educational qualification in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a proposed salary which equals or exceeds a certain threshold.
If you are sponsored for a job in an appropriate occupation code listed as being “eligible for PhD points”, and you have one UK PhD or other academic doctoral qualification in a STEM subject, or an overseas academic qualification which UK NARIC confirms meets the recognised standard of a UK PhD in a STEM subject, and if you have the below indicated salary, you will be awarded 20 tradeable points for your relevant educational qualification in a STEM subject and for your salary.
Check here whether your job is in an appropriate occupation code listed as being “eligible for PhD points”.
If you have more than one PhD or other academic doctoral qualification in a STEM subject, you may only be awarded points for one qualification.
If you have been correctly awarded points for an educational qualification in a STEM subject in a previous grant of permission as a Skilled Worker, you do not need to provide evidence of the qualification again.
However, your sponsor must provide a credible explanation of how the qualification in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject is relevant to the job for which you are being sponsored.
Your salary for the job for which you are being sponsored must equal or exceed £20,480 per year and, in the same time, £10.10 per hour and 80% of the going rate for the occupation code. Check here what the going rate for the occupation code is.
The salary will be considered as explained in this post.
No points will be awarded for a relevant educational qualification in a STEM subject and for your salary if you are not also being awarded the 20 mandatory points for sponsorship and the 20 mandatory points for a job at the appropriate skill level.
